About The Retreat
Join other quilters for a time of relaxation and sharing at our hosted quilting retreat in a remote setting near Glacier National Park, Montana. Leave your kids, husband, work worries, and cooking behind and pamper yourself with undisturbed sewing time in a small group environment. Reserve a spot at one of our scheduled quilt retreats or schedule your own quilt retreat for your group of 4 to 8 friends when it works best for you – quilting retreats are held from October 1st thru May 31st.
Our quilter’s retreat is hosted in our Grizzly Cabin – a 4 bedroom and 2 bathroom log home. There is a bathroom upstairs with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the main level with 2 bedrooms. Each bedroom has 2 beds. You sew, eat, and sleep all in the Grizzly Cabin so there’s no need to go outside – you can stay in your jammies all day if you’d like. But if you’d like a break, you can take the short walk along our nature trail to the North Fork River.
No need to worry about bringing tables, pressing supplies, cutting mats, or large rulers. We provide a 19” x 30” adjustable height table for each quilter’s sewing machine and for extra room you will share a 30” x 48” table with another quilter. Wooden arrow back chairs are included – if you’d like you can bring your own sewing chair. There are plenty of cutting stations with mats on the raised 4’ x 8’ table along with large Creative Grids rulers for your use. To complete the sewing area are 2 ironing board with irons. Just bring your sewing machine and plenty of projects to work on.
So come join the fun at Smoky Bear Creek Retreats.
About Your Host
Nancy Collard along with her husband Scott started Smoky Bear Lodge as a bed & breakfast over 20 years ago. Their desire to have an upscale Lodge with a rustic look was just the incentive Nancy needed to get into quilting nearly 15 years ago. Nancy's quilts now adorn all the beds in their Lodge. Their business has grown and they've added one large cabin - The Grizzly Cabin - which sleeps up to 12 people and 2 smaller cabins - The Little Bear Cabin and Little Griz Cabin - which sleep up to 6 people each.
Having added the cabins to their business has given Nancy more beds to make quilts for - not that she was running out of things to do. She is currently working on making oversized queen quilts for the beds in The Grizzly Cabin. Nancy enjoys all aspects of quilting from designing to piecing to machine quilting to binding and has done this on all her quilts. She has also made numerous wall hangings, lap quilts, and table runners.
Years ago a bed and breakfast lodge guest - a quilt designer - encouraged Nancy to take some quilting classes so she followed that advice and took several quilting classes. Quilting queen sized quilts was a real challenge for Nancy on her Elna Heirloom sewing machine. Then a few years ago she bought a Baby Lock Crown Jewel long-arm quilting machine which not only sped up her machine quilting process on the large quilts but also enhanced it. She's now been long arm machine quilting for many customers for over 10 years.
After attending quilting retreats hosted by others, Nancy enjoyed it so much she decided to host Quilt Retreats at their Grizzly Cabin. She really enjoys small intimate groups so nearly 10 years ago, Nancy started hosting her retreats to accommodate 4-8 quilters. Nancy is a member of Teakettle Quilters' Guild in Columbia Falls, MT and was the featured quilter for their quilt show in 2010.

Came by train for a quilt retreat with 4 other lovely women. Went to 4 quilt shops. Thanks, Nancy, for the great food, wonderful conversation, and spotless cabin! You really have a wonderful place. Hope I can come again someday!
